The broad jaws visually widen the entire facial oval. The best way to achieve a narrowing of the facial oval (and consequently its feminization) is by narrowing the jaw, reducing posterior angles and / or sharpening the sides.
HOW IS A FEMALE CHIN?
Female jaws have differences in shape and size with males. They tend to be smaller, both width and height. They also tend to be rounded or to look like a tipped ending, while males are usually "square". In some cases the male chins are divided in the middle by a vertical furrow at the level of the skin, which occurs more rarely in the female chin.
HOW DOES THE FEMINIZATION OF A MENTON MALE MADE?
Fortunately the chin is an area that allows to be modified in all its dimensions: high, width and projection. Depending on the characteristics of each patient, the surgeon will evaluate the suitability of performing one of the following procedures or combine more than one of them:
A) Placement of a solid implant:
This technique is used when all that is needed is to give more projection to the chin. The implants may be silicone or porous polyethylene (Medpor)
B) Liming or trimming of the bone:
This technique applies when the chin needs a small change in shape and size.
C) Sliding Mentoplasty:
In this procedure a cut is made to the bone of the chin that allows to separate its inferior part like a horseshoe. This "bone horseshoe" is fixed again by a titanium miniplate, but not in the original position but a little further or further back, as to increase or reduce the projection of the chin tip. At the same time, lowering the thickness of this horseshoe before reattaching it can lead to a significant reduction in the final height of the chin. Chin surgeries are usually combined with the Feminization of the Jaw to achieve a harmonious continuity between these two parts of the face that are so closely associated with each other. If the chin is externally divided by the typical male vertical groove, a Z plasty can be performed, which is a superficial intervention at the skin level, or fill the groove with an injectable product or a minimum solid silicone implant.
RECOVERY
When you leave the operating room you will have an elastic chinstrap or a compression bandage covering the underside of your face. It will probably be taken away one day later. If you want to make up you can do it the day after the surgery. During the first one or two days you must follow a liquid diet and then you will go on a soft diet. It is very important that you take care of the hygiene of the wounds in your lower gums until they close: to avoid the proliferation of bacteria inside the mouth, do not ingest dairy products. Do not eat raw vegetables or meat that is not very well cooked. Rinse your mouth with antiseptic liquid will help. If you do not mind being seen with a swollen face, you can return to your social activities one week after surgery. But you must wait until the second or third week before doing any heavy lifting or physical exercise. Sleeping with the head elevated during the first few days may favor the recovery process. Applying ice will also help you a lot.
During the recovery period some people may experience depressions. This is normal after all surgery, however small. You might even think that you made a big mistake when you operated. Do not worry. Most people who are happy today and very satisfied with their results went through that depression.
WHAT RISKS AND COMPLICATIONS CAN I HAVE?
In the hands of a qualified surgeon, it is unlikely that a feminization of jaw present complications. However, any surgical procedure, however minimal, presents risks, and we must think of them as a possibility.
Asymmetries. Although the surgeon marks in detail the areas to be operated, the asymmetries may occur.
Adverse reactions to anesthesia.
Infections, although they are very unusual if you take the correct antibiotics.
Damage to nerves passing through the area. This can lead to temporary numbness of the lower lip.
